Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Getting Child Support, Abandonment
My sons father and I live in 2 different states. Our son will be 6 and I have yet to receive ANY kind of help from him. I turned him into child support but they cant even find him to get him into court, and they always end up closing his case. My friend told me I could file abandonment but I dont know anything about that. What would be the best way to get child support from him?

Re: Getting Child Support, Abandonment
Hello:
This sounds like a tough situation to be in. 'Sorry you have to deal with this.
In response to your question, I would like to know what agency for child support you have been taking your case to. Make sure you are dealing with the proper Dept. They handle these types of cases all the time. In Jax., I know there is a specific law firm that is under contract with the State of Fla. to represent people that need support, are not getting it and can't afford their own lawyers. I believe the Dept. of Child Support Enforcement is where they start. I'm not sure, because when I handle thes cases, we usually know the opposing parties' address and they live in this city.
You could also hire an investigator in the city where he lives. I know that costs money, but the court would order him to reimburse that later. Good luck. 'Hope, this helps, Tom Rosenblum.
