Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

child support adjustment

I was an owner of a business and had to pay a set amount of child support. I have recently sold business and am working for local company. I cannot pay child support amount with new lower salary. What is my course of action to get this adjusted?

Re: child support adjustment

Mr. Bello is correct and you should follow this course of action rather than simply not pay the current amounts due because that will only lead to trouble for you.

Re: child support adjustment

If there have been material changes since the last time child support was set, then either party may petition the court for a modification of the child support amount based on the new circumstances, salary, etc. Essentially, you would file a petition for modification with the court and present new testimony, financial affidavits and the such regarding your current income and the court should readjust the child support award to conform with the guidelines.
