Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Child support amount based on incorrect income

Our final hearing happened today reguarding child support. The judge awarded her a child support amount that is based on me making a bring home amount that is almost 3 times what I actually do. He also awarded her a years worth of retro based on that amount. Her lawyer somehow came up with this figure with a pay sheet she subpenoed from my employer. The judge wouldn't let me show him the many pay stubs I had with me because I didn't provide them to her lawyer and awarded the amount she requested. Also she is making almost twice as much as she was a year ago and he wouldn't take this into account either. Is there anything I can do about this? Based on the child support calculators I have seen online I should only have to pay less than 1/4 of what was ordered.

You could ask for a rehearing, but the odds of it being granted are very slim. I can't say this to people enough: don't start asking lawyers what to do AFTER your hearing has passed. Get a good lawyer before you do the hearing. In your case, it possibly would have saved you thousands.
