Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Child Support

HISTORY:

I was originally divorced in Fulton County, Georgia. Joint custody was awarded to me and my ex. My ex was awarded child support.

In GA when a child turns 14 they can elect which parent they want to live with and can choose a non-custodial parent as long as that parent has not been declared un-fit.

I have four children. The oldest is now 19 and is no longer eligible for support.

I have a 17 year old who has lived with me since she was 14, a 15.5 year old who has lived with me since April of 2003. A 12 year old who still lives at home with her mother.

QUESTION:

The balance of child support was shifted to me in April of 2003 when I became the sole custodial parent for two of the remaining three children. My ex has refused to pay child support and has even told the children ''over her dead body''. What do I have to do in Broward County to get an order for child support so that I can begin collecting support from my ex.

I contacted an attorney in GA and he told me over the phone that I needed to file down here because this was now my and my childrens jurisdiction.

ANSWERS:

I don't have a $5K retainer so don't ask me to call you for an answer.

Thanks,

Phil

he is correct. Either you or your Fla. attorney must seek a court order in Broward Family Court.
