Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Child Support Jurisdiction
was divorced in Florida 15 Dec 1995 telephonically from Germany as I was a soldier at that time, my wife of that time waived all rights and agreed to Florida jurisdiction concerning the divorce and its proceedings. I am presently in Germany employed by the Department of Defense as a GS civilian accompanying the Armed Forces of the United States and working under the NATO SOFA agreement. My home of record is Florida. My ex-wife is an American citizen with a residence permit for Germany and my daughter is also an American citizen and living with her mother.
Since I was divorced in Florida and ordered to pay child support by the Florida court does the jurisdiction to raise or lower my child support still reside with the Florida court? The last paragraph of our divorce decree states as reservation ''The Court retains full and complete jurisdiction of this cause of action and the parties.'' My ex-wife had agreed to have the court in Florida finalize our divorce and had also signed a waiver back then. Could a German court assume jurisdiction over the adjustment of child support if such action was filed at a local court in Germany or would this action still have to be handled by the appropriate authorities in Florida?

Re: Child Support Jurisdiction
since everyone is in Germany I would think a German Court would take jurisdiction. Ask an attorney in Germany.
