Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Child Support Changes
We live in Pinellas County, Florida. We have been marrid for 5 years. My husband has a 10 years old daughter from his previous merriage. They got devorced in '94 or '95 in Florida, Pinellas County. The daughter lives
with her mom and my husband pays $485 for child
support. They have joint custody. My questions: Is
that true that he is only required to pay child
support until she turns 18 by FL Law? That is what I have read. Would this change if they move to a different state?
Can the ex-wife make him pay if she goes to collage?
Also, we are affraid what would happen if she looses
her job, because she could go back to court and ask
for more child support. She just got remarried last
summer. Would that matter? Her now husband
was unemployed for the whole last year, but meanwhile they got 2 brand new automobiles, a truck and an SUV.I bet the child support had a pretty big part in that. Basicly I
would like to know if we have any legal grounds to
stand on if she goes againts us. Thank you.

Re: Child Support Changes
Child support is required until the child attains 18, marries, joins the military, or is otherwise supporting himself/herself, unless the Final Judgment agrees to different terms. Moving to a different state makes no difference. She could ask the court to require more support if there is a substantial change in circumstances, such as the father earns much more income, she earns much less income, the child has a medical problem requiring expensive treatment, etc.
