Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Child Support Owed and Disability

My ex husband now tells me that because he was approved for SSD that all the backed-owed child support has been dropped and he's no longer in any trouble (he owes me over $20,000 from the last 7 or so years). About two years ago, the state took him to court and let him pay $100 to purge everything, but then he never started paying again. Is this true now that he's completely off the hook and my son is shafted?! SS said that my son can get money BUT because there are other mom's/kids that my ex had, that my sons amount is only like $100 a month, which is less than 1/2 of the CS order. What can I do now?! I dont' think I'll ever see my son get the money, but now I have to sit and watch the ex get away with it because he's ''disabled'' (from DUI wreck a copuld years ago on a motorcycle, of course). Say this isn't so!

Re: Child Support Owed and Disability

He's wrong. The amount your son gets from SSD is deducted from the child support your ex owes to you, but your ex is responsible for anything else. He is also wrong about the back support no longer being due, unless something caused the arrearage to be discharged. Being on SSD doesn't get you out of child support.
