Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Child Support Reduction

Hello

I live in Florida.

My situation is I have felt I've been paying too much for child support based on my income. $650/mo. for one child on $32k salary.

However, I recently lost my job on December 21st. I'm not sure if I qualify to have my CP reduced. But I know I can't survive paying that much on CP, especially being unemployed at the moment. Would I qualify for a reduction.

If you have any advice or offer a consult, please get in contact.

Thank you for your time,

Tim

Re: Child Support Reduction

Hoping that the job situation is a temporary one, reduction is probably not what you would get. The obligation remains the same, only the ability to pay has diminished.

Before it gets to critical mass, you need (via an attorney) to get back before the judge and maybe temporarily abate the payments to a sum you can handle. Know well you will probably have to make up the arrearages. Remember child support is for the kids.
