Child support and visitation rights

My ex-husband works 55hrs every week for the past 3-4 years, his lawyer said that child support is only based on 40hrs, is this true? also lately he does not pick up the kids only when he wants to, it use to be every other weekend and Tuesday; this is affecting the kids, are visitations mandatory?
