Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Child support for out of wedlock children

I never took the father of my child to court, because he decided that he wanted to take responsibility, and we could do it between us.

Eight years later, the support does not come regularly, and I have to call and beg for it. I am having trouble because he lives in Florida and I live in Illinois. I can't find a lawyer to help me.

I don't know where to start. I would like to do this between us, I do not know if it can be done without a court order.

What can I do? Where should I start?

I can't imagine why you would have difficulty finding an attorney to handle this case. If you resided in florida I would love to handle this for you. In any event, you should hire an attorney in Illinois and file a Paternity Action. This will involve proving that he is the father or him agreeing to it. Then child support is calculated and is required to be sent to you regularly. If he then does not pay then he faces contempt and possibly jail time. I say file in Illinois so it would be convenient for you.
