Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
child Support/Inheritance
I raised my son as a single mother, and his father never paid child support.
We never married, and I left him when I was four months pregnant, due to his alcohlism, and being very ill during my entire pregnancy. My son is now 19, and a few years back we did DNA testing because his father didn't want to pay child support. He never has regardless. There were hearings in Sarasota Florida where he lived, he attended the hearings with his attorney and Social ervices. I live in Fruita Colorado and couldn't afford to attend. We had a call last year from the Attorney General asking if we had received a large lump sum of money, which we hadn't. Finally I checked back into it and found out that my son's father died April 2006, and nobody informed us.
He also has another son that lives in Florida and is two years younger than my son. If he had a life insurance policy and an estate.. Shouldn't my son be
entitled to some of it? How do I go about finding out?
I did call social security they told me of his date of death, and that there was no finances available for my son, because of his current age.
His father was only 46 years old.
I assume that there is money involved, and would appreciate your help.
Thank You,

Re: child Support/Inheritance
You should retain an attorney in Florida to look into it.
