Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Help
My child is 1 year and six months old. I've been paying child support for a year and 3 months. The first three months were from the time the baby was born to the day my ex took me to court. I just got a call from her lawyer saying I owe $1200 for those first 3 months plus medical bills and if I don't pay in two weeks I will go to jail. I really don't have the money to pay that on top of the $750 a month I already pay... what could I do?

Re: Help
You may owe the money, but you probably won't go to jail. They'll have to file a motion against you if you've previously been ordered to pay the money, or they'll have to file a full lawsuit against you if you've never been ordered to pay the money from back then.
Either way, it's very likely that the judge or hearing officer will give you time to make payments.
Re: Help
The attorney needs a court order and to show you that order first and foremost. And it will be VERY hard to go to jail over this. The only way that will happen is if you are held in contempt, which I doubt.
I suggest getting a FL lawyer
