Claiming an adult as a dependant
Hello I have recently joined the United States Airforce and I am leaving to Boot Camp soon. Once I am done with Boot Camp I need to claim my mother as my dependant, so that she can live off base with me.
I support my mother. I pay the bills. She is on disability. she has Chronic Asthma, Insulin dependant diabetes, and High blood pressure; so I take care of her. I need to know what the process is for claiming her as my dependant and how I can request the forms or court appointment.
This is very Urgent as well as Important to me, Please inform me at your earliest convienience.
Thank You.

Re: Claiming an adult as a dependant
If you pay for most of your mother's support, she doesn't earn more than $7,200 or so, depending on her circumstances, she is your dependent. For income tax purposes, there are no special forms. Just claim her on your tax form as your dependent if during the tax period, she can satisfy the basic tests regarding income, relationship, and you provided more than half of her support and she lived with you. She is your dependent, and you may have enough medical expenses to claim as a deduction as well.
