Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Collect on judgment?

Divorced in GA in 2001. Ex husband paid some of judgment. Then gave me a check that was no good for over $5,000 of the remainder. I am in TN and he is in FL. I desperately need the money. Is there an inexpensive way to collect on the GA judgment when he is in FL. He is a financial columnist for MANY papers around the country. I tried garnishment, but the newspaper in GA fired him when they found out what he did to me. He had had many other garnishments when working for the Savannah newspaper.

What should I do that doesn't cost me tons of money? The check he gave me didn't bounce, but I called the bank on numerous occasions and it was always no good.

Re: Collect on judgment?

There are many ways to collect a judgment, especially a divorce judgment. However, you are in the unique position of having received a bad check from your debtor/ex-husband. If you contact your local District Attorney's office you may find some assistance there, because the ex may have committed a crime. The DA may have set up a system of collecting on a bad check. I would call them and call a local lawyer to help you. Best of luck.

Re: Collect on judgment?

No. It requires domestication of the judgment in

Florida and then location of assets.
