College Residency
I'm 17 and applying for university of florida. I live in arizona wiith my dad for 9 months of the year and go to school there. My mom, however, lives in florida, and i live with here for the other 3 months. Could i be considered a Florida resident for tuition purposes?

I have to disagree with the other lawyer who answered your question. I double-checked the statute (Fla. Stat. 240.1201) and the rule (Fla. Admin. Code 6C-7) to be sure. As I understand it, if your parents are divorced and either of them lives in Florida full time, you qualify for Florida in-state tuition. It doesn't matter who you live with most of the time or who claims you on their taxes.
However, don't be too excited about this yet. I'm a family lawyer, not a college lawyer, so you've asked a question outside my field. To be certain, please check with the financial aid office at the University of Florida. If they say no, go over their head to the state Department of Education. If you qualify, you'll also want to look into the Bright Futures program, which pays up to 100% tuition in grants to Florida residents.
