Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

No Common Law Marriage in Florida or Tennessee?

I have been living with a man on and off for approximately 3 years. Approximately two years in Florida and approximately eight months in Tennessee. My concern is that I have a funny suspicion that my ''common law husband is planning on kicking me out of our ''rental'' house. I believe, due to our past history living together, that he is going to provoke an arguement to cause a domestic violence situation so he can call the police and have me arrested and get a TRO on me. He has had 7 DUI's so I am more or less his chauffer because he does not have a drivers license anymore. He has registered both cars in my name but says neither belong to me. I would like to know my rights should he ask me to leave, I feel I have a right to live in this house since my name is on the lease and I have contributed a lot to the household. Further, I believe I am entitled to ownership of at least one of the vehicles. Please advise me because I am terribly worried now that I found out Tennessee nor Florida recognize common law marriage and I have worked very hard to obtain the little assets we have. Thank you, it is good to know you are here.

Tennessee doesn't have common law marriage, but it does have a slight version of palimony. For more info, see www.gsmithlawfirm.com
