Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Complicated question

My girlfriend and I are planning to get married. Her 3yr old daughter and herself are on a visitor extended visa. The problems are,she is still married and is getting divorced here in the US.It will take 2-3 months or years for the divorce and it all depends on the mutual agreement they decide on the child custody. She had been separated but living with him for 2yrs.Now it's been 8 months away from that. She had been with an abusive husband. She has reported the abuses that he committed to the US authorities. He has no intentions to support them because she will never return. He has not cared for his child. All she wants is only the custody of her child and wants nothing to do with him.So to make things worse I have lost my job and have run out of money and savings. We are near homeless. She can not work because of her visa.I'm seeking for help, all while I find a job to support all of us.I love my family and have a lot of things to sort out for us three. My question is,How can I ask the government for assistance for my family?

Re: Complicated question

She and her daughter are not "your family," so you can't get assistance for them. You are entitled to any assistance you would otherwise qualify for, e.g., unemployment, welfare, food stamps, medicaid, etc.

She may qualify for Legal Aid to assist her with her divorce. You should check with Legal Aid in your area. I doubt that Legal Aid in your area requires U.S. Citizenship as a requirement for services.
