Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Contempt of a Court Order for Grandparent Visitation

Can a judge legally terminate your grandparent rights (court order was rendered in 1994) due to Von Eiff v.Azicri and Beage v. Beagle? These cases ruled on by the State of Florida Supreme Court regard original request for grandparent visitation whereas I have had an order since 1994. Child was adopted by step-father in Georgia in 1997 but I still continued visitation untill June, 2001. I was never notifed of the adoption even though I had a court order for grandparent visitation. The judge ruled against my contempt at a hearing and cited the above cases.

Yes, Fl Supreme Court and legislature have addressed and modified grandparent rights re grandchildren in the last few years. Previous court orders can be affected by the subsequent decisions and change of law. Grandparents have certain rights to visitation but such rights must be appropriate relative to parental rights and wishes, and are usually addressed as part of the dissolution process.
