Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

How can I get a copy of my adoption papers if I have no knowledge of where it took place. I was 5, my father died , my mother remarried and her husband adopted me. The marriage ended soon and no contact was kept, Mother is dead and I am 65. Now that I have been married, in the Navy and worked for the IRS for 30 years with security clearance, they want proof of name change to get my drivers license or passport. I was born in Boston Ma. 06/25/1947. I do not know if the adoption took place in Ma of NH. I live in Florida now.

What state and county did your mother remarry in? How long after were you adopted? It may be that you were never officially adopted. IN other words back in those days, people just took the name of the father. If, by some chance there were papers, then the Vital Statistics office for Maine and/or NH will be able to direct you to whether you can open sealed docs to help you out. Sometimes just presenting a copy of the death certificate of your father and your mother may be sufficient.
