Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Court ordered debt

I have 12 months to pay my ex (as of today) a payment of $5,000. I paid $7,000 out of our savings today. What happens if I don't pay within a year?

Re: Court ordered debt

The Court can do a number of things to enforce its order:

1. Issue a separate Money Judgment with statutory interest being added.

2. The Court may be able to hold you in Contempt of Court, and if the money was for unpaid child support, you could be incarcerated.

3. Bank levies and garnishments of wages is also a possiblity.
