custody

I am a father and i am try to get custody of my son from his mom who has just got out of prison what is the best way to do this with out a lawyer?

Custody from whom? I don't believe she had the child with her in prison. I also don't believe she had custody. Had to be a relative or foster care. I'll guess and say that it was the maternal grandmother. If I am right, your beef is with the custodian, not the mother who can't possibly have custody at this time!
