Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Custody transfer

I'm a 16 year old girl. My great-grandparents have full

custody of me. My great-grandmother is emotionally abusive. I have asked to moved out but she says it has to be done through a court. My father doesn't have enough room for me in his house but i was wondering if it was possible for my grandparents to just transfer custody of me to him and then I live with a friend who has offered me a place to stay? If this is not possible what would I have to do to be emancipated? I do not have a job but I am a high school graduate.

Re: Custody transfer

Your grandparents are right, it does have to be done in Court. In Florida, minor cannot file petitions. Your father would have to file the petition -- either for custody or for emancipation -- on your behalf.
