Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Custody of younger cousin

My aunt (in AL) has recently asked me to take custody of my 17 year old cousin. I just moved to FL. I have no clue what I need to do. Do I need to get an attorney here in Florida or in Alabama? Do I need a lawyer or are there just forms that she should sign giving me guardianship? I would appreciate any guidance.

Thank you.

Retain counsel so you can be advised as to what you are undertaking, the correct legal procedures and what the future has in store for you. Good luck.

Re: Custody of younger cousin

You could go to the law library in the County in which you live and with some assistance you could file intially, but there are accounting and inventory matters that surface later and you would, no doubt, want an attorney to handle. Best bet, go see an attorney in Florida.
