Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My ex has custody of our 9 1/2 yr. old son. I live in another state with my other son. Our son L has made it very clear to me that he wants to live with us. I explained to him what it meant to not live with daddy and he is very sure of himself and making that move. I don't have money to hire a lawyer, can I use a mediator to make this move happen?
