There are a couple of ways to take care of this, but they depend on several factors and actual wishes of all of the parties. It is not usually as simple as appointing someone else guardian over your child. There will have to be a court proceeding and you may need to terminate your parental rights, and the child's other parent will have to do the same thing or have the court do it. These actions have long term and permanent consequences. You should consult with an attorney personally before you make any decisions to appoint someone else a legal guardian of your child.
