Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My daughter's mother lives in Florida and I live in Michigan, she will be 17 this September. We established paternity years ago but never did a custody agreement. We've always had a semi-amicable relationship but recently she has been making it extra difficult to see/speak to my daughter. When I asked to take my daughter this past Christmas, she told me if I want her I have to take her to court. I want to take my daughter for the summer but her mother has blocked my number and took her phone over a month ago. She'll be 17 soon going to court now for a custody agreement seems like a waste of time and money. Do I need my daughter's mother's permission to take my daughter for the summer if paternity is established but not custody?

No. It should be up to your daughter.

I suspect your daughter may be dating and enjoying her freedom with her friends. I suggest you try and talk to her about her plans for the summer. If this still fails in your visitation efforts you may have to file for visitation. Of course, the repercussion with the bio mom will be that she will want child support. Perhaps all the way back to birth.

You will need to get a court order to establish and enforce your legal rights.
