Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

DCF has given my husband n I temporary custody of a 20 mos boy, whose mother left him with her roommate n did not return. It has been 2 weeks n the mother has not contacted DCF to see what she needs to do to get her child back. (She has been given the case workers name n number).

My question is, do we have to wait a year to see if the mother gets herself together or is their a legal process we can pursue? We would like to adopt the child. Can the mothers parental rights be terminated any earlier than a year?

Unless mother and father consent, doubt if judge will approve yet.
