Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Disabled mother in bad hands.

Hello, I apologize in advance if this is

being posted in the wrong area. My

mother is in her late 40's, and is mentally

disabled. She has been diagnosed with

depression, gets SSI, and is a

dependent of her mother, who lives in

her 80's, as well as her sisters who are

in their 30's and 50's respectively. They

all live in the same house.

They treat her horribly, and only keep

her around because of life insurance

policies, and the SSI. Her sister which I

consider the ''Ring-Leader'' of the family

told me to my face that her SSI is what

gets their (first) mortgage payed every

month. They don't allow her to shower,

nor do they let her do things on her own.

She has a bed-time, and is forced to do

chores, and announce her presence

when going from room to room.

I have called DCF, and they told me they

can do nothing unless I get concrete

proof, which is nigh impossible. Is there

anything I can do to gain custody of my

mother, and get her out of that horrible

place?

Re: Disabled mother in bad hands.

DCFS has a separate branch for aged and mentally challenged persons. You may want to call that branch.

You might also file to become her guardian through the probate court. Of course, you would need some medical support for your petition.

Best to confer with an attorney that handles these matter so you get the most recent information.
