Division of property

My spouse has been told by a family member should i decide ti divorce him, he will be entiled to half of the property.

As a general rule, spouses evenly divide all the assets and all the debt they've acquired since they married. It doesn't matter whose name the assets or debts are in. There are some exceptions to the rule, though.
