divorce and alimony
in the state of florida, what are the stipulations for alimony? My sons wife has fallen in love with another woman .. The wife says she is going to seek alimony, and she works and uses her money independently of his. Thanks so much I have told him to get legal counsel, and hopefully he can afford one He lives in port st lucie fla

Florida is an equitable distribution state (not community property but close). Ch 63 of the Florida Statutes handles the provisions for distribution of assets. Alimony is based on the number of years the spouses have been married plus need. A rule of thumb is about 10 yrs before alimony kicks in but there are exceptions. Falling in love with "another" woman won't help!

There are no stipulations. Each case is decided on its own facts depending upon income and the marital relationship.
