Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Divorce Decree of Alimony
My ex-husband & I were married for 30 yrs and the divorce settlement (which he agreed to) gave me alimony of approx $700. per month. We've been divorced for 5 yrs and my ex continues to
call me periodically, asking if I would consider reducing the alimony. I need that money to live on. Would a lawyer even consider a request from me to have the alimony reduced or vacated ? My ex's new wife has never worked and does not contribute to the household income. Yet he wants me to give up some of my income because as he puts it ''things are tight''... I am really torn, I would love to help him, but not if it means his wife can continue to lay by the pool all day and not work...My ex makes approx. 3 times what my annual income is... What legitimate excuse can I give for not wanting to help.

None. You are entitled to that payment. And, he has no grounds on which to reduce payments (from what you say here). If you want to make a gift to him, that's up to you. But, be careful not to give too much and too often as he may use that to show that you don't need the money anymore and petition to modify or terminate support.
