in a divorce in florida, are there any protections for property owned by one spouse not being considered property of both?

It depends. Florida is an equitable division state NOT community property state. Therefore, what contribution to you give to the property? Did you maintain while the other spouse worked? Did you contribute funds, contribute to the maintence and upkeep of the property - how long have you been married - how much equity is in the property.
