Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I went to a divorce lawyer out of panic when husband cleaned out bank account and told me he wanted a divorce. I gave the lawyer $1000.00 toward the $5500. retainer fee and was told nothing could be started until whole retainer was paid. I would like to retain another attorney who will accept my $1000. and take payments, but will begin the process. How do I get my money back? I did not sign any contract and was told the consultation was free.

If no work was done on the file, you should request a refund of your retainer deposit.

You are allowed to fire your current attorney and request a refund as long as no work was done towards on your file. I hope you are able to find good counsel in your area that is willing to work with.
