Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Going through a divorce.
I'm going through a divorce and I want to know if I can start a checking account in my name only or do I have to wait until the divorce is final?

There is no law against a married person opening an account in his or her name only. However, if you do not have a temporary agreement deliniating what income or asset belong to whom, the money you put in there may still be considered marital property and part of equitable distribution. I suggest you or your attorney negotiate a temporary agreement with your spouse.
