Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Divorced father of handicapped son
I'm a divorced father of a 30yr old handicapped son w/cerebral palsy. For his first 13yrs of his life I did everything for my son while his mother studied to become a professional(looking back it was to escape dealing w/him). Then she left me for another man. For 12 yrs he comes over every weekend and I provide about $1000 monthly in insurance, camps, child support. My ex-wife is very assertive and demanding and always wants more & more. I love my son dearly, but the money is going towards an illegal maid she claims is for my son. The maid does everything for the family (including her new husband and new son). I'm 57 yrs old now, not in perfect health
& looking towards retirement. She and I are both remarried. My wife can't work because she has MS. Their side earns more money. In addition, my son receives Medicaid checks and Insurance. Our divorce decree doesn't have an age limit for our son. Do I have to keep paying everything for my son while they live like royalty and I live on a budget? Do I have to take care of him on weekends for the rest of my life. I'd like to at least go out to a movie or the beach for once and weekends are dads days off. Don't I have any rights?

Re: Divorced father of handicapped son
You need to see an attorney immediately!!! Depending on what the Final Judgment reads, you generally cannot be forced to to support an adult child indefinately. Also you cannot be forced to exercise visitation and take care of your son. Good Luck.
