Divorcing after 19 yrs of separation

My wife and I have been separated for 18 plus years. She left me and moved into her place 18 yrs ago. She got ill about 4 years ago and subsequently moved back to her home state of Alabama. Our only child is 22yrs old and therefore, no kids are in the picture. We discussed getting a divorce and we both agreed it would be uncontested. However, once she received the legal papers, she is requesting what I consider is an unreasonable amout of money ($50,000). I have a nice job with nice pay and she originally requested $100k. My attorney has advising that there is less risk if I settle with her by paying the 50k. I am being advised to seek an attorney that specializes in divorces and this could lead to a better financial resolution for myself. Please advise.
