Emancipation of a minor
My ex-husband left NY, and is now in Florida with my son (16, almost 17). I'm trying to get visitation rights so have filed in NY for the rights. My son tells me his father wants to emancipate him so he won't have pay any legal or travel fee's for him to come to see. What's needed to emancipate a minor in Florida who is really not ready to be emancipated?

Please post questions about FL law on the appropriate regional site. If you are petitioning in NY for visitation, then the father is presumably the custodial parent. If you are the non-custodial parent of an unemancipated minor, you will be liable for child support. It may not be in your interest to prevent such emancipation.
