Re: engagement ring

The majority rule has always been that the woman returns the ring only if she breaks off the engagement. Courts have shifted in recent years recognizing the transaction as a conditional gift in contemplation of marriage. Given the "no fault" concept of divorces, rings go back more frequently. Personally, a real lady would return it and go on to a more suitable suitor.
