Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My father died in 1991, i was 18 years of age and in college at the time. i did not receive any social security benefits during the time that i was still in school. am i able to retrieve those benefits at this time or is it too late due to amount of time that has elasped? i have learned that minors of deceased parents and those children that are still in college are entitled to social security benefits. i lived in the state of maryland at that time and was in college from 1991-1996. can you help?

You need to check the county in which your father resided. In Florida, it is not mandatory to pay child support for college students unless it it stated in the divorce decree (was he divorced from your mom and did a decree exist as to this issue). SS can also tell you in any state that benefits stop at the age of 18 unless the child will not graduate until 19 years of age. For that portion you may be entitled to some benefit but you state that you were 18 and in college so I suspect not.
