Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I fathered a child in FL in 1997 with my ex girlfriend. We split about three years later. I have been paying child support, although at first there were problems and I do owe some arrears. She would'nt let me see my child and I wound up in Texas. I figured when he was older we could have some contact. I recently received a stipulation to stop child support because my son was adopted in 2005. Is it possible for there to have been an adoption without my consent. I never signed or gave my consent to anything. The paper work would have had to have been forged because I am legally the father and I was on his birth certificate. The child support office refuses to give me any information.

It's not strictly legal, but it happens all the time. She attempted to have you served adoption papers at your "last known address," an address she probably knew to be false. When you couldn't be found, she published the adoption notice in a Florida newspaper.

When you didn't show up for court, the adoption was granted behind your back.
