Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

father's rights

I am thinking of asking for child support but before I do I want to know if the father start paying child support what rights will he have over the child. We were never married and he hasn't seen her in a year and was not really in her life before that.

Re: father's rights

The father's rights (to visitation, for instance) are independent of his duty to pay child support. He will not have more rights if he pays child support than if he doesn't. Of course, paternity must be official for him to have a duty to pay. Hope that helps.
