Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
How much for a Florida divorce? can it be done by a paralegal.
1 Answer from Attorneys
the costs of a divorce vary widely, depending on where you file, the complexity of the issues, whether children are involved, and many other factors. Just the fee that has to be paid to the court is nearly $400.00.
A paralegal can not give you any legal advice, and can not represent you or your spouse in any court proceeding in the State of Florida. If the paralegal works for an attorney that you hire, they can help you through the process within the restrictions established by law, but the attorney will be responsible in the end.
It is possible to represent yourself in a divorce and if it is uncontested with no children or assets to divide, the clerk of the court can usually provide you with a "self help packet" but they can not assist you in filling it out.
Many paralegals are extremely competent and may know more about certain areas of the law than some attorneys, but they are not attorneys and can not advise you on the law. If you are considering paying a paralegal to represent you in your divorce, do not do it.
