Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
in florida, i know the law used to be that if the parents were never married, the mother automatically obtained custody until otherwise determined by the courts. since then, i have been told that the laws have changed. our son is now 10. i would like to know if our situation could be considered "grandfathered in" since the law was in place when our son was born and we were never married.

The child belongs to the mother. The only difference is that when you try to leave the state of Florida and you have enacted some pleading in the court, then you need the court's permission to leave with the child.
