Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Hello from Florida,

I have a little problem that no one can seem to have the right answer. I have my child suppport set up in Florida. I was divorced in Geogia. In that order. When my child support was set up it was based on 3 children. Since then one of my children came to live with me about 6 years ago and my oldest turned 18 last year. He is not attending school. I hired a lawer about 3 years ago to have my child support reduced since I had one of my kids with me. When we went to court Florida said we needed to go to Georgia. Georgia said we needed to go to Florida. I pay my support through Florida. I think the problem is that in the divorce decree it states that Geogia adopted the ruling of child support from Florida. I am still paying the full amount based on 3 children. What and where do I file to correct this.

You didn't say where the mother lives and the other child lives, which may be determinative of your answer. I suggest you sit down with a family law attorney and bring in all your paperwork for him or her to look over. If everyone lives in Florida, then Florida is almost certainly your answer. If not, sometimes it's tough to figure out, but a lawyer will be able to tell you after looking at the paperwork.
