Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My friend wants a divorce but just found out today, that there is no record of him every being married. How does he go about the 'divorce' proceedings if he wasn't actually married? And how does he work the financial end, the property and children. He wants to get this, whatever he needs to do, done in the next couple of weeks.

If he was never married (for instance, because the marriage license was never filed), then there is no divorce. No marriage, no divorce. He'd have to file a paternity action for timeshare ("custody" and "visitation") and child support, and the property and debt gets split based on whose name is on it unless he and his girlfriend-that-he-thought-was-his-wife can agree otherwise.
