Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I have a friend who is trying to divorce her husband of 25 years. He has been and continues to verbally threaten her over the phone. He lives in Chicago while she lives in Florida. Over the course of their marriage he hardly worked, is an alcoholic, possessive and has abused her both mentally and physically. He calls her on the phone from Chicago accusing her of having affairs (which she hasn't) and claims he will do harm to her..Should she contact the police about this? What should she do? Thank you!

If he is threatening her, definitely call the police. She should document each and every contact with him in which he threatens her. A paper diary log is fine. If he gets anywhere near her, she should have an injunction in place, and the cops will arrest him on contact.

First thing: get an injunction against contact (a restraining order). She can do that herself at the local courthouse.

Second thing: get an attorney to help her out with the divorce.
