my friend is married but left her husband, not officially. he will make it as difficult as possible to piss her off. she had a boyfirend (2years) and wants to change her last name to her boyfriends. can she do such?

Sure she can, but why bother? She should just get a divorce. The name change would be part of the divorce proceedings.
