Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
A friend of mine was asked to leave his home in Tampa Florida by his wife. He then lost his job due to stress and economic factors. He was forced to move out of the area due to financial situations and employment. He moved to Pensacola area with family and found no job opportunities. He then was being contacted for jobs available in the north. He stayed with friends in NJ and after only a week found a job. Wife in Florida has now filed for divorce and is asking for full custody of their two children claiming abandonment. He has been in contact with the children over the phone and internet regularly and has been paying child support since the time of his departure from the home even though there was no set or written plan. Child support has been on a regular basis. Can he be guilty of abandonment? What are the laws in laymen terms?

There is no such thing as abandonment anymore, but it doesn't help his custody case--if he is seeking custody--if he lives several states away.
