Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
I have a girlfriend who is a lawyer. When I lost my job and thus had to have my family law attorney of 8 years withdraw, she started showing up in court with me. That was in 2007. She never talked to me about a fee, never brought up money. Because this has been going on for so long, I paid her here and there as a "thanks" gesture. She never sent me a bill. Then 4 years later she sends me an itemized 30000 bill and withdraws from the case. She won't return my calls (we were friends) and is charging a lien on me. How is this possible and what claim does she have?

She has no case against you. First and foremost - WHERE IS THE CONTRACT!!!! If she did not have you sign a contract for representation, then too bad for her. As far as giving her money along, you probably were paying for out of pocket expenses which would be something that a person would do. I suggest you call her on her suit.

Also oral contracts are those that are performable within one year. If not, it has to be in writing. so I don't see you having violated the Statute of Frauds either.
Unless she can prove some agreement between you, I see no valid claim.
