Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

my girlfriend lost custody of her children.d.c.f. required her to complete a case plan before she would have custody of her children again. she has been informed that as a result of my criminal background, she and i cannot reside together with her children. we were told that as long as i completed a anger management & parenting class, that there would be no reason that her custody would be reinstated. now she has been told that as long as she and i are together, she would not regain custody of her children. is there legal ground for us to stand on?
